It is located in Huércal de Almería, a coastal town nearby Almería (Spain). Our students have got a very diverse and heterogenous profile. We have students with a highly level of motivation and academic performance as well as a percentage of students who have lack of interests for their learning process. This negative fact sometimes contributes to a rise in conflicts and school failure.Nevertheless, the vast majority of our students have a great motivation and interest in taking part in European projects, as it is a way to expand their horizons and face new challenges that will help them in their future life.
Multi-directional Projects in our school
The school is involved in many projects and this fact has prompted us to obtain the category of Mentor school. In that way, other institutions have visited us to learn about our good practices in some fields.

Project Ecoscuelas
This project aims at raising awareness about the importance of preserving the planet and contributing to have an eco-friendly way of life. In this sense, the school is carrying out different activities to achieve this. Some of these activities are the following:
1- Creating a scholar orchard with flowers and plants. Students were plating trees and they had a first contact with nature. 2- Contest about the most ecofriendly classroom. Every week, all the classrooms are checked by teachers to review if they are recycling correctly, not wasting paper and respecting some of the rules that are compulsory in the school. 3- Some NGO such as Greenpeace have attended to the school to give some talks to students. They have done some workshops related to environmental issues. One of them was related to the creation of natural soap to contribute to reduce climate change. |
4- The school is going to organize some conferences about climate change in which they will be some stands, workshops and talks organized by students, teachers and families.
5- Taking part in a project between some other Spanish schools in order to do some exchanges among students and sharing experiences about ecofriendly practices. 6- Some scholar trips to do some trekking and natural activities in order to discover typical trees in our area and the beauty of nature. 7- Some activities to be carried out in nature related to sports. |
Project: Schools as learning Communities
Moreover, our school has developed a project that is known as Schools as learning Communities. Within this project, we organize many activities related to environmental issues. Some of them are the following:
|
Furthermore, there is one week in which a lot of external people, enterprises and associations come to our school to teach and show us different activities. We have contact with some associations related to forest as well as firefighters. One year, they come to our school to show us their work. We also can contribute to this project through our project of Bilingualism. We teach different subjects using English (CLIL). In that way the English teachers not only teach vocabulary and grammar but also some contents related to environment. We can organize some lessons related to forests, typical trees in Spain, ways to preserve forest and we could develop some conferences and workshops related to this in English.
|
And last but not least, our project of ICT is a great advantage to this project to digitalize everything done. Our school is trying to reduce the amount of paper and we are increasing our performance using ICT resources. We could contribute to this project by creating an online magazine with our good practices to preserve forests, as well as some digital realia showing the activities done during all the mobilities. |
Commited to fruitful cooperation
The people involved in the Erasmus programme belong to many areas in the school. Our team is composed by some members of the Management of the school (Headmaster, Secretary, Chief of studies), some bilingual teachers from different subjects, English teachers and coordinators of different areas (ICT, Environment, Inclusion, etc.).All the teachers involved are willing to take part in Erasmus projects. They also have great capacities to adapt themselves to new challenges and they have a very good command of the English language and ICT resources.
