Day 1: Monday,November 7, 2022
On Monday morning, the 7th of November 2022, right according to schedule Mrs Dorota Gilas, the Erasmus Coordinator in the Polish school, met all members of the delegations in the city center and, then, we commuted to the VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące. We were welcomed by the Headmistress of the school unit in the official opening of the project and introduced to the faculty members and the students that participate in the Project's Team. Teachers introduced themselves to the students and a delightful, very interesting and fruitful discussion/interview followed among the visiting teachers and the students of the hosting school, during which in face-to-face contact we learned so much about the orientation of the school, the mentality of the kids and their determination to do the best for the new project.
Then, the 1st teachers' meeting followed during which we engaged in:
- the sharing and comparison of the SWOT analysis results that each organization will have about the level of environmental responsibility in own participants and the quality and effectiveness of their green policy in their country
- re-distribution of roles, tasks and responsibilities in the partnership
- arrangement of webinars and workshops in order to develop competences in all the participants
- fixing of the activities deadlines, not only for the educational ones but also for monitoring and dissemination of the first year outputs
- a workshop arranged by the hosting school on how to deal with green practices at school.
Two more topic-related activities followed. The first one was the visit to the Lublin's Firefighting Department. There, members of all delegations were introduced to the causes and consequences of fires in the area, as well as been given a tour of the facilities and equipment used in the firefighting process. The Fire Chief of the Municipal Headquarters of State Fire Service presented the information in a detailed way, thus making it easy for the visitors to understand all the difficult and complex tasks entailed in forest fire prevention, protection and active intervention when necessary.
The second, really interesting activity was the meeting with members of the Faculty of the Lublin University, Department of Life Sciences an associated partner in the project. A fruitful and very informative discussion gave precious information to members of all delegations concerning the flora & fauna of the forests in the wider area, statistics, causes and effects of forest fires, background information on environmental and climatic issues, the importance of the ecosystems , their fragility & endangerment due to human activities, and ways of educating our students, the next generation, of actively involving themselves in their protection.
Dinner and a short tour of the city center, through Krakowska Gate to the Old Town, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Cathedral and the Town Hall, completed the activities of the day in the best possible way.
