Our Priorities
Major attention is paid to teaching foreign languages such as English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese. For the past couple of years the school has intensively promoted green policy by taking part in different actions and implementing eco-friendly solutions on its premises, e.g. providing recycling bins in the corridors, installing a device measuring air quality and displaying the results of the measurements on the monitor, installing the hydroponics system (growing plants without soil). Both the students and the teachers pay attention to green issues and get involved in environmental protection not only at school but also outside it.
|
The actions that took place over the last two years include:
|
- cooperating with the local national park (e.g. building nesting boxes for birds),
- organizing quizzes and competitions concerning environmental issues,
- organizing actions aimed at promoting the region and its natural beauty (photography contest, making videos, cooperation with the Town Hall),
- participating in environment-related projects (Forest Fire Prevention on e-Twinning, Renewable Energy Sources),
- cooperating with local animal sanctuaries.
Innovation for Sustainability
In its 75-year-old existence, VI Liceum Ogólnokształcące has not been involved in international partnership before. In January 2021 a group of students supervised by the English teacher Dorota Gilas joined the eTwinning project Forest Fire Prevention, thanks to which productive cooperation with countries such as Turkey, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Serbia and Bulgaria started. The students have gained the opportunity not only to practice their linguistic skills, but also to develop their digital competences and, most importantly, to raise their awareness of the issue of forest fires, which appears to be a serious one in Poland.
|
Apart form taking part in the e-Twinning project, the school has been involved in a variety of actions aiming at environmental protection and promoting green thinking. A recent undertaking supervised by the Physics teachers is a project about solar energy and making a video in order to promote the idea of photovoltaics. As for the topic of forest fires, in November 2021 a group of students took part in a Forest Fire Prevention competition organized by the Voivodeship State Fire Service and won the main prize in the category of making a promotional video addressing the issue.

Woman Power advocating Biology & Eco-Policy
The legal representative of the school is Mrs Marzena Kamińska who has been holding the position of the headmistress for the last few years. In her administrative work she is assisted by Mrs Aldona Zdun, who is the vice-principal. Both ladies are Biology teachers therefore the eco-policy is of major importance in the school. The latest green innovation initiated by them in cooperation with the other biologists is hydroponics, which consists in building a system based on water treatment in order to grow plants using hydrophytes instead of soil.
|
Social Involvement & Community Ties
Apart from the green policy, the school also promotes European Community issues such as cultural diversity, gender equality, racial and religious tolerance as well as social inclusion. For many years the school has been opened to immigrant students and currently it is attended by 10 learners from Ukraine, Belarus and Uzbekistan. Besides that, both students and teachers are actively involved in voluntary work such as collecting basic commodities for the local orphanage and hospice, the homeless shelter, as well as donating blood.
|
In reaction to the war in Ukraine the school voluntary group is organizing the action of collecting provisions to support humanitarian aid. Students with disabilities or health problems are offered home schooling and comprehensive psychological support. Sports education is of major importance too and students are offered a variety of extra-curricular activities.
Moreover, the headmistress emphasizes cooperation with local authorities in order to promote the region, which results in students being involved in actions such as making videos, taking photographs or creating works of art including the elements of local environment. Besides that, she encourages a variety of activities both among teachers and students to promote values such as tolerance, social inclusion and cultural diversity. The school has recently won the School of the Year competition organized by local educational authorities, which is great evidence of us being not only environment- but also student- friendly.

Professional Development
for Members of the Staff
As far as teachers’ development is concerned, great stress is put on constant improvement of pedagogical, methodological and interpersonal skills, therefore the teaching staff regularly take part in workshops, webinars, lectures, training courses and other forms of professional development. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, digital skills have become of major importance and the staff have been involved in numerous trainings to gain new competences. Moreover, the school cooperates with local universities (Medical University, The University of Life Sciences, Catholic University of Lublin, Maria Sklodowska Curie University) in order to exchange teaching experiences as well as present the students with the opportunities of tertiary education available in Lublin.
